The Best Places to Eat ‘Khao Chae’ in Bangkok

Khao Chae is “rice soaked in cool water”. “Khao” means “rice” and “Chae” means “to soak”. There is cooked rice soaked in cold water. The rice is served with an assortment of side dishes. The most common are shrimp paste balls, stuffed bell peppers, sweet and shredded salted beef, stuffed onions, sweet and salty lettuce, dried fish, and various sweet stir-fries, popular in summer. It was meant to be made and consumed in the hot season, from mid-March to the end of April.
